Client: Villa World
New Ground prepared the environmental approvals strategy and undertook ecological survey and impact assessment works for Villa world’s ‘The Meadows’; a 185 lot residential community.
Technical works included vegetation community characterisation and Regional Ecosystem ground-truthing, targeted threatened species (koala, amphibians) surveys, wetland classification, pest flora surveys, wetland buffer design in accordance with the Queensland Buffer Design Guideline and site rehabilitation concept development.
This project featured innovative groundwater recharge trenches to maintain a pre-development level of wetland recharge which allowed for a reduction in buffer requirements while creating wetland regional ecosystem habitats and stormwater treatment infrastructure.
New Ground was able to negotiate for the reduction in default State Government wetland buffers given the environmental management strategy proposed for the project. This resulted in the development of about eight (8) additional allotments for the project while paving the way for the rehabilitation of degraded wetlands and wetland buffers; making this a unique residential setting.
