Gladstone Dredging Concerns Leads to Federal Inquiry

800 442 NewGround Pty Ltd

Environment Minister Greg Hunt has announced an inquiry into the dredging and disposal taking place in Gladstone Harbour.

Mr Hunt is seeking a review of the previous governments’ decisions. The Associations of Marine Park Tourism Operators (AMPTO) stated that the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) has previous released reports indicating that the health of the area was declining and will likely continue its deterioration if no intervention takes place.

The GBRMPA is currently examining a proposal from North Queensland Bulk Ports to dispose of the dredge material, and is due to deliver its decision on the 31st of January.
